Organic Mattresses

You've heard of organic vegetables and organic milk, but what on earth is an organic mattress? Is it really healthier?

Well, quite simply, yes. Organic vegetables are healthier because they do not have chemical pesticide residues. Organic milk is healthier because it comes from cows that are not given artificial chemical hormones. Likewise, organic mattresses do not have all the chemicals that regular mattresses have.

But that's just the beginning. Organic mattresses are made with organic and non-toxic materials instead of conventional and chemically questionable materials. Consumers are choosing organic mattresses as a way to avoid unnecessary exposure to these chemicals.

A certified organic mattress is made with 100% certified organic cotton (guaranteed to be grown without the use of pesticides and other processing chemicals) and certified organic wool. Mattress cores are made with steel springs or GOLS-certified organic natural rubber, and pillowtops with certified organic wool and/or natural rubber. All our materials are from renewable resources that support sustainable agriculture.

In today's conventional mattresses, the most common materials used are man-made. They're derived from petrochemicals and from natural gas, which are nonrenewable resources. The list of ingredients can include polyester, polyurethane and memory foams, synthetic latex, Styrofoam, nylon, and a host of other chemical derivatives.

Conventional mattresses are also likely to include cotton that has been treated with pesticides and other chemicals - definitely non-organic. On top of all that, such mattresses are treated with flame retardants and other chemical applications.

A certified organic mattress is very different. Our organic mattresses are made with only organic raw materials (cotton, wool, and natural rubber, etc).

No. "Eco" and "green" are not regulated terms and can be misleading. Many of these "eco" materials may sound good, but they are not really "natural" and are certainly not focused on eliminating harmful chemicals.

Watch out for the following:

"Plant derived" or "Soybean" foam

These materials are used in many "eco" mattress models and are at least 80% petroleum/chemical based and are not really "made of soybeans."

"Bamboo" fabric

Also common in "eco" models, typically made using environmentally toxic chemicals with no trace of the bamboo plant in the finished product. Many of these "eco" materials may sound good, but they are not really "natural".

The only way to be certain about the quality of your mattress is to check its certifications. With Ergo Beds, you will never have to worry about questionable labels and claims. We do thorough research and reference certifications with the brands we offer. Our showroom contains more certified and awarded mattresses than any other organic mattress reatiler in Southern California. We do not manufacturer, but we 100% stand behind the companies we offer to our customers.
