Sleep Tech

One of the most common misconceptions when buying a mattress is that firmness is the most important factor. In reality, firmness is a subjective choice based on a customer's personal preference. What is truly important when choosing a bed is comfort, pressure relief and alignment. New sleep technologies today have been developed to incorporate these key elements of healthy sleep into your bedding solution.

At Ergo Customized Comfort we offer the latest in sleep technologies so that you get the best sleep possible. Our technologies include:

Memory Foam

Memory foam’s temperature sensitive material has the ability to conform to your body while lying on it, but returns to its original shape once left alone. It adjusts to your individual temperature and position providing customized support for your body shape. By contouring to your unique physique, memory foam relieves pressure on key parts of your body including your hips and shoulders.

Tempur® Material – Tempur Pedic’s® patented technology.

Tempur® material was originally created by NASA to relieve some of the pressure astronauts experience during lift-off. What they ended up creating was a breathable, temperature-sensitive, viscoelastic substance. Due to its unique cellular structure the material becomes softer when warmer and remains firm when cooler. Tempur® material can therefore change and shift based on a person’s body temperature and contour creating an excellent environment for a sleep solution that can adjust to each individual person. Ergo Customized Comfort carries every Tempur-Pedic® product. For more information regarding the benefits of Tempur® material read about Ergo’s Tempur-Pedic® sleep solutions.

EcoMemoryFoam - ErgoBed Mattress

The ErgoBed Mattress is introducing the first plant based memory foam product made in the U.S.A. The patented production process of our EcoMemoryFoam creates the most breathable memory foam on the market and will help you sleep cooler. You will experience less tossing and turning because our luxurious memory foam gently contours to your body, which relieves pressure, and increases circulation offering a deeper nights sleep.

Latex Foam

Most American style mattresses use synthetic foam for the comfort layer. This material is often fragile and breaks down quickly. Synthetic foam does not support the body correctly (too stiff or too soft), and traps moisture making for hotter sleeping temperatures and a favorable climate for dust mites, molds, and mildew.

Benefits of Latex

At Ergo Customized Comfort we use the highest quality latex foam rubber. Latex foam provides the proper support for the back and does not sag allowing for even cushioning. Latex also lasts 3-4 times as long as synthetic polyfoam and is moisture resistant preventing mold, dust, and bacteria from forming. The unique design of the latex material used in our Silhouette® mattresses provides added shoulder comfort (pressure relief) and air circulation (breath ability) that is superior to all other latex or foam mattresses on the market. For more information read how latex is used with Ergo’s Silhouette® Sleep Solutions.

Not all latex mattresses are equal

If you want to bid farewell to inner spring mattresses forever, you'll discover fairly quickly that all latex mattresses are not created equal. The questions below will help you narrow your search and understand why a latex mattress can help you feel better – tonight.

  • Why is latex good for my body?
  • What's the difference between all-natural and synthetic latex?
  • What's the difference between standard and Talalay latex?
  • Can I have a synthetic and natural latex combo mattress?

Why is latex good for my body?

Support

Whether you prefer a firm or plush sleep surface, Ergo offers a wide range of latex mattresses that address many sleep and health concerns. Understanding the different types of latex will help you find the right one for you.

Unlike a spring mattress that acts like a shock absorber and pushes back, latex supports all the unique contours of your body. Instead of forcing your spine into a straight line, the buoyancy of latex allows your muscles, joints and spine to relax naturally.

Less tossing and turning

Because your body is relaxed and NOT receiving roll-over signals from pain or discomfort, a deeper, more restful sleep is easier to achieve. And when partnered with the benefits of wool (as all our mattresses are) nighttime movement is reduced by as much as 75%. What's more, latex doesn't bounce like a spring mattress, so when your partner rolls over, your sleep isn't disturbed.

Healthier breathing environment

Latex has a unique ventilating system that makes it a breathable, allergen-free, moisture-reduced sleeping environment. The unique open-cell structure of natural latex allows moist air to pass through naturally and dissipate quickly. In fact, it's 300% more resistant to dust mites than any other foam, making it the ideal choice for allergy sufferers.

What's the difference between natural and synthetic latex?

Most latex manufacturers in the Far East and Africa (Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Ivory Coast etc.) use 100% natural latex from rubber trees. Synthetic latex is a petrochemical blend of styrene and butadiene and has a similar molecular structure – but lacks the proteins that contribute to allergies.

Natural latex is highly elastic, which makes it both buoyant and supportive for pressure points. Synthetic latex has the same supportive and long-lasting lifespan of natural latex but it's much less expensive.

Worried about a latex allergy? The truth is, latex is a touch-allergy and you can't suddenly get it from being near latex. If you're allergic to latex, it's from birth, (though it may not become apparent until exposure). A latex mattress won't affect an allergy because our mattresses are wrapped in wool and then sealed in a protective outer layer of cotton or poly/cotton blend ticking.

What's the difference between Standard and Talalay latex?

Standard (sometimes referred to as Dunlop) and Talalay latex are the different ways of processing natural latex. While some companies throw the terms around with hints about quality or longevity, they mostly refer to firmness.

During the Talalay process, air is vacuumed from the foam as its flash frozen. Imagining the open cell structure of a sea sponge and how easily air moves through it is the best way to describe Talalay latex.

During the Dunlop process, air is not removed and the freezing stage is skipped – the cell structure is not open. These millions of balloons compress when you lie on the mattress, which makes a Dunlop latex mattress denser and firmer.

Both Talalay and Standard latex are often used in the same mattress to achieve levels of firmness neither can achieve alone.

Slat Suspension

Ergo Foundation

The ergonomic slat technology was invented in Switzerland over 50 years ago and is the primary foundation for beds in Europe. However; very few U.S. mattress manufacturers have incorporated this technology in to their product designs. Since the unique components are manufactured in Europe, access is limited to most mattress manufacturers. Benefits of the Ergo Foundation With its flexible, responsive slat supports, the Ergo system provides an ergonomic foundation for your mattress. Due to the flexible nature of this technology, the slats give and rotate in response to the shifting planes of your body. Your support settings can be modified at any time to accommodate changing needs or comfort preferences. The Ergo system also improves air circulation through the mattress, enhancing your nighttime comfort. At Ergo Customized Comfort we can custom tailor a slat suspension system for you using our Ergo Comfort computer system. The Ergo Foundation is available with our Silhouette® and Latex Bliss® sleep solutions as well as our ErgoBed™ Mattresses.

Air

The concept behind the air mattress is the ability to adjust the firmness of a bed at the push of a button. However, firmness does not always relate to your comfort or support. The problem with the air mattress is that it does not address the key issues of comfort, pressure relief, and alignment necessary in a healthy sleep solution. As you release air out of an air mattress the mattress loses its layer of support causing the mattress to curve. A common misconception is that an air bed is going to contour to your body, but in reality air does little to provide the proper amount of support for your body.

Benefit of Air

The benefit of air technology is the ability to quickly adjust firmness with the touch of a button. That’s why Ergo Customized Comfort has combined air technology with a latex and pocket spring bedding solution that will provide pressure relief and alignment. Our Silhouette® Marseille model with air adjustable lumbar support offers the technology necessary to support your body, but also offers the flexibility to adjust your comfort. For more information read about our Marseille sleep solutions.

Pocket Springs

A common misperception is that a spring mattress cannot provide the same comfort and relief as a foam mattress. The problem with most innerspring mattresses is that they're built to handle body mass, but not your body’s pressure points, especially the shoulders and hips. In fact, most mattresses resist these points, causing added pressure and discomfort. Fortunately, there are a few mattress products using Pocket Spring technology, providing the same comfort and support as the highest quality foam mattress.

Benefit of Pocket Spring Technology

Ergo Customized Comfort only uses Pocket Spring technology in our spring mattresses. Pocket Springs are pre-compressed, individually encased coils. Individual encasement enables each spring to adjust independently of the others to perfectly support your body in any sleeping position. The best performing Pocket Spring design is hand-assembled; nested in a honeycomb pattern that minimizes the space between coils. This provides more points of support and a bed that is more responsive than any other spring mattress.

Our Pocket Spring mattresses also have more coils than most other mattresses. Our beds range from 1,200 to 2,700 coils in a mattress. Compare that with 700-1,000 in premium U.S. mattresses. More coils mean more "active" points in the mattress, providing better response and support for your body. At Ergo Customized Comfort we feature imported, hand-assembled Pocket Spring technology in some of our Silhouette® products.

Power Beds

Power beds, otherwise known as adjustable beds, add another dimension to your bedroom environment and sleeping comfort. One obvious benefit is the ability to sit up in bed to read, eat, or watch television, however adjustable beds also help improve sleep. The ability to elevate your legs relieves back pressure, as well as improves circulation. Allowing your body to rest in a contour, or “fetal” position, the adjustable bed reduces the need to sleep on your side, eliminating the added pressure that comes with side-sleeping. Certain physical conditions can also be alleviated with adjustable beds.

A common concern with adjustable beds is that they resemble hospital beds. However, Ergo features adjustable bed designs that look like a luxury box spring. Our adjustable bases come in all sizes and fit nicely into most bed frames or furniture surrounds. New technologies also provide whisper-quiet motors for adjusting positions.

Ergo Customized Comfort offers state-of-the-art power beds in a range of styles and sizes. All Ergo power beds have a 10-20 year warranty. For more information please read about Ergo's power bed solutions.
