Choosing the Right Bed
You spend one-third of your life in bed, and the quality of your sleep can affect every aspect of your life. For the best sleep possible, you need to choose a bed that is customizable to your unique body and sleeping posture.
Firmness does not equate to better support…
Most people believe firmness is the most important aspect in choosing a bed, but in reality more people are hurting from a bed being too hard rather than too soft. Softness and cushioning are necessary to relieve your pressure points. Bodies have curves so your sleeping solution needs to be able to adapt to these curves. In a well-designed mattress, firmness or softness is just personal preference and has little bearing on the overall support dynamic.
What to look for in a bed…
The best bed is one that will reduce pressure, enhance support and provide proper spinal alignment. The shoulders, hips, and spinal column are correctly supported when your sleeping posture is in proper balance. Every man and woman has a unique body shape and thus uses a different sleeping posture. Your sleep solution needs to be able to adapt to your unique physiology and comfort sensitivities. At Ergo Customized Comfort we specialize in sleep solutions that can address these needs.
Finding the Right Mattress
At Ergo Customized Comfort we recommend taking the following steps when shopping for a mattress to ensure that you find the sleep solution that is right for you:
- Allow enough time to properly test mattresses (min. 1 hr/store)
- When testing simulate the sleeping posture you use at home
- Wear comfortable clothing that will not inhibit the experience
- Shop at least 3 places that specialize in mattresses
- Shop in a comfortable, low pressure environment

Dux (Duxiana)
Although the Dux Bed uses 100% Natural Latex like our Silhouette and Carpe Diem lines, it is not bacteria, mold, and dust mite Resistant. The Duxiana mattresses are not certified as being completely chemical free, unlike our Silhouette mattresses. Even more so, Dux bed do not have the option of dual firmness (allowing customization of the firmness of one side of the bed versus the other, perfect for differing couples!) - or even a custom sized bed. The Dux lacks Individual Hand-Assembled Coils and Breathability causing it to fall short to Silhouette, the more affordable and obvious alternative.
Hästens
Hästens makes a great mattress that is in many ways similar to our Silhouette and Carpe Diem lines; however, it lacks some key features. The Hästens mattresses lack the same breathability that Silhouette has and therefore is not bacteria, mold, and dust mite resistant. Although Hästens allows for a dual firmness choice, there is no top pad option to soften up the mattress feel if it proved to be too firm. The beds are not all natural and the Swan Certification does not certify Hästens mattresses to be 100% chemical free.

Sleep Number (Select Comfort) Sleep Number (Select Comfort) air beds lack many benefits that our Silhouette beds have to offer. While it is great to have the option to change the firmness of your bed at the touch of a button, you lose the options for organic and natural bedding. In addition, based on our experience we have found that air beds simply do not provide proper support for your spine and neck. Individual air pockets within the mattress allow for transfer of motion from one side of the bed to the other - creating an unpleasant sleeping environment for couples and lacking in proper support. Select Comfort's Sleep Number Bed is not bacteria, mold, and dust mite resistant. The Sleep Number also does not target specific pressure points on the body which is essential for a better nights rest.
